Jennifer Day

Jennifer Day has taught and facilitated internationally for more than thirty years. Specializing in practical emotional mastery and emotional intelligence coaching and facilitation, she is the author/co-author of seven published books, translated into ten languages, and has also edited several books including the international edition of Grace Llewellyn’s TEENAGE LIBERATION HANDBOOK.

Most importantly, she is a mother and grandmother. With her daughter, designer and artist Tammy Day (who un-schooled from the age of 15 up to, and including, college), she co-founded Children Believe Inc., a company dedicated to providing high quality resources and support for parents and families, from 1995 to 2006.

Born, raised and educated in Europe, with a degree in Pedagogy from Oslo, Norway, and teaching qualifications from (among others) the Royal Academy of Dancing, Jennifer spent more than fifteen years in the performing arts, as a director, choreographer, producer, and teacher of professional dancers.

In 1988 she chose to change direction and embarked on studies in psychology, specializing in person-centred counselling. She spent almost a decade studying alternative approaches to stress and emotional management (in the UK and in the US). She co-founded and directed VIA, a Stress Management consulting firm, and co-designed and directed an emotional literacy program that was implemented in 12 schools in the UK.

Her strong interest and studies in the art & science of learning and education led her to educating her own daughter in so-called alternative schools, culminating in the home-schooling and ultimately un-schooling way. During this journey, in 1995 Jennifer co-founded ‘The Center’, a center for home-schoolers and unschoolers on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, and was editor of that center’s newsletter. She also organized and facilitated the second international Spirit of Learning Conference (2001), which included a youth panel and dozens of unschooled and homeschooled young people and their families.

In her counselling/coaching/consulting practice she has coached countless parents and families of unschoolers, as well as given trainings to teachers (in public, prep, state, Montessori, Steiner and homeschooling communities), and numerous corporations and organizations (incl. PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, University of South Florida, University of California, Berkeley, and City Year NY).

She has been affiliated with several research initiatives looking at the power of emotions in behaviour, learning, and business leadership, and she continues to design and facilitate trainings in AEM on both sides of the Atlantic. She is based in London, UK, where she runs her coaching & consulting practice, internationally. Jennifer is also a member of The Author’s Guild, The Association For Coaching UK, and The International Association of Coaching.

At RE this year, Jennifer will be presenting the following sessions and workshops as well as collaborating with some of our other speakers:
